 Argentine
The current flag of Argentina was officially adopted on February 12, 1812. The blue stripes upon a white field were placed on the flag by Manuel Belgrano, the leader of the revolution, and are said to be symbolic of the sky above, when the fight for the country`s independence began. The golden sun, with the Sun of May face, was added to the flag in 1818.

 Bolivia
The current flag of Bolivia was officially adopted on November 30, 1851. The red and green colors were part of the original flag of 1825. Red is said to recall valor and green indicates fertility. The centered band of yellow symbolizes the country`s mineral resources, and the coat of arms within that band is topped by a condor.

 Brazil
The current flag of Brazil was officially adopted on November 15, 1889. The flag is green, symbolic of Brazil`s lush fields and forests. Its primary feature is a large yellow diamond, symbolic of Brazil`s wealth in gold, and in its center floats a blue celestial globe. It includes 27 white five-pointed stars (one for each state and the Federal District) arranged in the same pattern as the night sky over Brazil. The globe displays a white equatorial band with the motto ORDEM E PROGRESSO translation = (Order and Progress.)

 Chile
The current flag of Chile was officially adopted on October 18, 1817. The flag is modeled after the U.S. Stars and Stripes. Blue represents the color of the high-mountain skies, white is symbolic of the snow in the Andes Mountains, and red symbolizes the blood shed during the long fight for freedom.

 Colombia
The current flag of Colombia was officially adopted on December 17, 1819. The flag features three horizontal bands of yellow (double-width), blue and red. Colors of the flag are commonly interpreted in two ways: One version indicates that the yellow symbolizes sovereignty and justice, blue as loyalty and vigilance, and red represents the valor shown and the victory achieved during the battles for independence from Spain. A very popular children`s song claims that yellow represents the gold Colombia once owned until the arrival of the Spanish, blue indicates the country`s contact with two oceans and red represents the blood that Colombians spent in their struggle for independence from Spain.

 Ecuador
The current flag of Ecuador was officially adopted on September 26, 1860. The red, green and blue are the colors of Francisco de Miranda, the South American revolutionist and adventurer. Yellow is the color of the federation, red is said to indicate courage and blue symbolizes independence from Spain. The centered coat of arms is topped with a condor.

 Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands are an overseas territory of Britain, and their flag, first hoisted in 1948, symbolizes that association. The coat of arms features a ram symbolic of the sheep industry on the islands. It also includes a ship (the Desire), one used by John Davies, whose crew discovered the islands in 1592. The Falkland`s motto is scrolled at the bottom of the arms.
